The major problem encountered with nets fitted with bottles or rubber funnels is that the flow of water causes organisms to be deposited on the net itself rather than in the bottle or funnel.
To overcome this problem G B Nets produces filters to fit plankton and drift nets. Organisms caught by the net are deposited on a mesh screen of the same material as the net itself. This can be unscrewed in the field and either washed off into a container, to enable the screen to be re-used immediately, or dropped into a bottle for future examination.
