A tripod design was first introduced by EFE in 1978 and has not changed. 

Ten pins and three legs can be carried inside the frame tube to prevent the all too frequent loss of components that occurs in other designs. 

Frames 20 years old are still in regular use by field centres and should components be 'lost' all parts are obtainable separately.  

Over the years several models with cheaper materials have been tried but they do not wear well and are not so accurate.  

The professional model has recently come down in price. 

Gold anodized aluminium tube body with precision drilled pin holes and solid legs.  

The end caps are self locking and retain the legs during transport or in field use.  

Stainless steel thumb screws lock the legs during use and the pins have rubber covered heads.  

For salt marsh, sand dunes or other very exposed corrosive natural environments as well as every day use in meadows or heathlands.
